Considerations when using the Microsoft Windows XP SP2
In the Z and I Emulator for Web documentation, HCL recommends that a Java 2 JRE not be used as the default Java Runtime for Microsoft Internet Explorer. It is also recommended that the Internet Explorer browser not use the Java 2 JRE for <applet>HTML tags in Tools >Internet Options > Advanced. These recommendations were made with the assumption that the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM) would be on the local computer. Because the Microsoft JVM is not being shipped with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you must have the Java 2 JRE be the default Java Runtime for Internet Explorer. This is configured in the Java Plug-in Control Panel under Browsers. You must also select the checkbox for using a Java 2 JRE for <applet> in Tools->Internet Options->Advanced.
Note: If you have upgraded to Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 from a previous version of Windows, you will likely still have the Microsoft JVM because the upgrade will not remove it if it exists. New machines that come with XP SP2 from the factory will not have this JVM and a Java 2 JRE must be the default Java Runtime.
