Configuration levels for default parameter values in Database On-Demand

A default parameter value is a default value that Database On-Demand automatically assigns to a parameter required for database access. For example, if the parameter required for database access is the URL of the database, then the default value could be jdbc:as400:myiSeries.

The parameters for which a default parameter value is available are:

• Parameters in the General group (such as SQL query timeout)
• Parameters in the Tables group (such as Table Filter)
• Parameters in the Drivers group (such as Class name)
• Parameters in the Logon group (such as Database Name)
• Parameters in the BiDi group (such as Local-File Type)

A parameter for which a default parameter value is available can have up to four levels of configuration. Some of these parameters do not have all four levels. The levels are:

1. Disable Functions

At this level, the Database On-Demand administrator can disable the user's ability to set the parameter.

2. Default Parameter Values (Administrator)

At this level, the Database On-Demand administrator can specify an administrator's default value for the parameter.

3. Default Parameter Values (User)

At this level, the user can specify a user's default value for the parameter, unless the Database On-Demand administrator has disabled (at Level 1 above) the user's ability to do so. If the user does in fact specify a default value, then it overrides the Database On-Demand administrator's default value from Level 2.

4. New SQL statement or File Upload statement

At this level, when the user creates a new SQL statement or a new File Upload statement, Database On-Demand automatically sets the value of the parameter required for database access to the default value. Depending on the type of parameter, either:

• The user must now accept the default value for the parameter in the new SQL statement or File Upload statement. (An example of such a parameter is the SQL query timeout, which is not configurable from within the SQL Wizard.) Or,
• The user can specify a different value, unless the administrator has disabled (at Level 1 above) the user's ability to do so. (An example of such a parameter is the Table Filter.)
